Physical Therapy and Rehab

Physical therapy is crucial in rehabilitating injuries or post-surgery, expediting recovery, managing pain, reducing inflammation, and enhancing overall physical function. It focuses on restoring mobility, improving flexibility, and building strength to prevent future issues.

Following a work-related injury, comprehensive rehabilitation is essential not just for returning to work but also for long-term health. The process generally includes these stages:

1. Immobilization: Initially, the injured area may need to be immobilized using splints, braces, or casts to promote healing and prevent further damage.

2. Range of Motion (ROM) Exercises: After initial healing, physical therapists begin range of motion exercises. These exercises aim to restore flexibility and mobility to the affected joint or muscle, preventing stiffness and maintaining joint function.

3. Strength Training: As range of motion improves, the focus shifts to strength training. These exercises are tailored to rebuild muscle strength that may have declined due to injury or inactivity, enhancing support and stability to reduce the risk of reinjury.

4. Gradual Return to Normal Activities: The final phase involves a gradual reintroduction of normal activities, including work duties. Physical therapists collaborate closely with patients to ensure they can safely resume their daily routines without compromising their recovery process.

Throughout each stage, physical therapists tailor treatment plans to individual needs, taking into account the specific nature of the injury, the patient's overall health, and their functional goals. By actively participating in their rehab, individuals not only recover more quickly but also reduce the likelihood of future injuries through improved strength, flexibility, and movement mechanics.

Claims Management

Our Claims Management Team is a cornerstone of our operations, renowned for their extensive proficiency in managing claims filed with the Department of Labor's Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (DOL-OWCP).

Division Of Federal Employees’ Compensation (DFEC) formerly known as The Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) is overseen by the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) under the Department of Labor (DOL), offering crucial support to federal government employees facing work-related injuries or illnesses. This program ensures coverage for medical expenses and lost wages for eligible personnel.

Various government agencies participate in Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (DOL-OWCP), including VA, USPS, IRS, BOP, ICE, and CBP.

In case of an injury, federal employees must promptly report the incident to their supervisor. Depending on the agency, employees are responsible for filing a claim online via the Employees' Compensation Operations & Management Portal (ECOMP), where their supervisor will verify the injury. In certain cases, supervisors will handle the necessary paperwork and authorize medical treatment. Employees retain the right to select their healthcare provider or treatment facility.

Once a patient is evaluated by one of our medical doctors and an injury is confirmed, all essential documents and medical records are promptly submitted to OWCP. In cases where a claim is initially denied, our Claims Management Department excels in both managing claims and effectively handling denials. Each case is approached with a thorough review and discussion with the patient. Once a strategy is determined, we meticulously compile all required forms, documents, and medical records, which are then submitted to OWCP for review.

Should reconsideration be necessary for proper adjudication and approval, we advocate diligently on behalf of our clients. The work of our Claims Management Department is continuous and detail-oriented. We ensure that every case maintains comprehensive documentation throughout treatment and consistently update OWCP to facilitate a seamless and timely processing of claims.

Treatment

Here are some of the most common occupational injuries and conditions treated by our federal workers’ comp doctors at our facility:

  • Vehicle-Related Accidents: Many federal jobs involve using transportation, such as postal workers delivering mail or law enforcement officers patrolling. Unfortunately, these roles expose workers to the risk of accidents that can cause injuries affecting the musculoskeletal system. Examples include: Back or spinal injuries Neck injuries, such as whiplash Fractures and dislocations Traumatic brain injuries Seeking DOL workers' compensation for physical therapy is crucial in these cases. Additionally, if another driver is at fault, a personal injury claim can also be pursued.

  • Slips, Trips, and Falls: These incidents are another common cause of work-related musculoskeletal injuries. They can lead to injuries ranging from minor to severe, often necessitating physical rehabilitation.

  • Injuries Due to Lifting or Carrying Heavy Objects: These injuries are also common and can include strains, sprains, and more severe musculoskeletal injuries. Preventive measures such as core-strengthening and proper training in lifting techniques can significantly reduce the risk of these injuries.

  • Injuries Due to Repetitive Stress and Overexertion: Performing repetitive tasks or overexerting oneself in the workplace can result in health issues over time. Examples include: Carpal tunnel syndrome Tendonitis Back pain and neck pain Overexposure to harmful substances like lead These injuries can gradually impair one’s ability to perform their job and impact overall health.

At our facility, our federal workers’ comp doctors specialize in addressing these specific injuries and conditions, providing comprehensive medical care and rehabilitation to aid in recovery and promote the return to optimal health and function.
